“ENGLISH MAJOR” DID IT AGAIN AND WON THE “GRANDE PREMIO JOCKEY CLUB BRASILERO (GI)”

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, June 12th, 2016: Black Opal Stud´s, ENGLISH MAJOR seems to be unstoppable after winning the Grande Premio Conde Herzberg (GII) in May. He was back at his best again, when he won the 5th race at the Jockey Club of Rio de Janeiro, on June 12th, taking home the “Grande Premio Jockey Club Brasilero (GI)”.

 

The exciting race took place on the 1600 meters turf track, at 3:11 P.M. ENGLISH MAJOR kicked of the race at an unfavorable position, placing himself in the middle of the pack. In the last 400 meters, in what is becoming his particular style, jockey A.M. Souza impressively unleashed the thoroughbred. ENGLISH MAJOR came round wide and accelerated spectacularly, passing all his rivals and winning the race by a nose. He was followed by El Shaklan and Enologo. The 1.37:40 victory was enthusiastically applauded by the crowd and was rewarded with an R$ 80,000 prize.

 

The impressive 487 kg., dark bay, 2 year old thoroughbred, currently dominates his generation. He is the son of the great PUT IT BACK and ROMANY QUEEN. He was bred by Haras Sta. Maria de Araras, trained by R. Solanes and guided by jockey A.M. Souza. On the race, Eduardo Schuch, Chairman of Black Opal said “English Major is a dream come true and has proved himself once again. If he continues to run this way, the sky is the limit for him”.
